Words are powerful

The beauty of language is how its received in a multitude of ways.

The motto, badder, bolder, and wiser is anchored by my guiding principles.

  • BADDER

Being bad is the unapologetic act of simply stepping out of the norm. Its embracing you and not choosing to contort, confine, and compromise your whole being. Being badder is the essence that you are always in progress.

  • BOLDER

To be bold reaches both thought and action. It is believing there is always something more you can do, be, dream. Being bolder is simply a muscle that with experience and time, grows stronger and stronger.

  • WISER

Wisdom is as good as gold and requires no need to wait on grey tresses. One cannot reach new heights of being badder and bolder without accepting the lessons. To be wiser is to bring your gaze to the past and find a better step for today and tomorrow.

The meaning behind the motto:
badder, bolder, wiser

Since I was a little girl, the anthem was Des’ree, You Gotta Be.

It’s the soft and sultry voice that always sends me into the daze of reflection and thinking forward. It’s the way she spoke so many affirmations into my life before I knew what they truly meant.

You gotta be
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

This is a classic song I return to often in my journey.

It’s a timeless reminder that even if you haven’t started, you can still start - - - it’s never too late to turn a new tide - never. I added an -er to bad, bold, and wise to note an ongoing progression of growth through time. Something that also allowed for grace and forgiveness when the path is less linear than I hoped.

For me, the tides, the crashing of waves have continued to teach me how beautiful it is to bloom - that growth is a zone I wish to never leave, nor ever get too comfortable (rest is also important). We are all fighting something, and the beauty is in how we find the healthy ways to restore, rebuild, and overcome towards another day.

You gotta be bad,
you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser

-Des’ree
